This interactive web mapping tool allows for exploration of Canadian medical crowdfunding campaigns related to cancer causes. The purpose is to help formulate future research questions that may not have been previously possible or imagined. This GoFundMe dataset was obtained in May 2016.
Feature Layers allow users to toggle location markers for each campaign and Canadian hospital location markers. You can click on campaign markers to view campaign attributes. You can also hover over hospital markers to view more information about hospital names and locations.
Basic Filters allow you to adjust the minimum values for variables. Multiple filters can be used at a time.
Exploratory Layers allow you to visualize where concetrations of campaigns exist across the country. You can also select a comparison layer. These layers depict weighted socio-economic variables and campaign frequencies per Forward Sortation Area (FSA). These layers are unaffected by the Basic Filters.
Analysis Layers allow you to explore frequent terms extracted from campaign titles and descriptions. You can click on a term to view the top 3 most frequent terms per FSA. If an FSA did not contain any frequent terms, the term will be displayed as "NA". These layers are also unaffected by the Basic Filters.
When campaign markers are enabled (under Features & Filters), you first need to drag the map or zoom in to populate the search side bar. Next, you can Filter by campaign title or location to typing in a word or location name related to campaigns you are interested in. By hovering over a campaign title in this list, a popup will appear to showcase details about that particular campaign. You can click off each campaign or click the "x" button on the popup to close it.
